Master Instructors is pleased to announce that Randall Brooks of Queen Creek, Arizona has received his Fifth Accreditation as a Master Instructor-Aerobatic. Randall has been an instructor pilot with APS since 2012 with seven years of experience in the field of Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) and more than 25 years of flight operations and training experience as a pilot and aviation manager. Randall previously held multiple director roles in flight and training operations with experience in simulators, gliders, aerobatic aircraft, multi-engine jets, and military jet training aircraft. He finds UPRT the most challenging and gratifying with APS’ unique programs, finding the greatest potential for worldwide aviation safety improvement. He flew formation aerobatics professionally for 19 years as a member of a variety of civilian teams. As an airshow demonstration pilot, he performed over 500 surface level aerobatic displays and was inducted into the International Council of Air Shows Hall of Fame as a founding member of the Red Baron Squadron. Randall holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado. In 2019, he received the NBAA Dr. Tony Kern Professionalism Award, honoring aviation professionals demonstrating leadership in support of safety in the business aviation industry.
Master Instructors is honored to announce that Matt Johnson of Fairfield Township, Ohio, has been recognized for the Seventh Time as a MCFI-Helicopter. Matt is the only active helicopter Master Instructor in the United States. He is committed to providing first-class flight instruction and services. Matt is an FAA Gold Seal Flight Instructor offering real-world training and personalized helicopter flight instruction. An accomplished pilot and instructor, Matt is also an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner in the Southwest Ohio region.
Master Instructors is pleased to announce the newest member of the Master Instructor Community. Paul Kortopates has just received his accreditation as a Master CFI. Paul is a San Diego-based independent CFI specializing in Mooney-specific training, instrument and avionics instruction. He serves as President of the San Diego Aviation Safety Counselors, is a FAASTeam Lead Representative for the San Diego FSDO and is the CFI for the San Diego chapter of the IMC Club. He is a frequent instructor and speaker at the Mooney Safety Foundation Pilot Proficiency Programs, which are offered several times a year. Paul is an adjunct instructor in Aviation at Miramar College, where he teaches the Advanced Instrument Sim Lab. He also works for Savvy Aviation as an A&P/IA. Paul owns a Mooney 252/Encore and flies extensively in Mexico and Central America with his pilot wife.
