Since 1963, the aviation industry working in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have recognized a small group of deserving aviation professionals under the General Aviation Awards Program. Qualified individuals in the fields of flight instruction, aviation maintenance, avionics, and safety are rewarded for their contributions to the aviation community. The selection process begins with FAA Safety Team managers at local Flight Standards District Offices (FSDOs) and then moves on to regional FAA offices. National award winners are selected from the pool of regional winners by panels of aviation professionals representing the four awards categories.
