Master Instructors and the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators are FAASTeam Industry members that support the FAASTeam at the national level and as such have a vested interest in aviation safety. Actively participating in FAASTeam sponsored events and being involved as a FAASTeam representative has always been an implied requirement, for all people applying for Master Instructor Accreditation, reflecting the Master Instructor Community’s commitment to excellence as an Aviation Educator and our support of the goal of “Safer Skies Through Education.”
A vital component of the FAA’s safety initiatives is the WINGS pilot proficiency program which promotes aviation safety and encourages a Mindset that recurrent training is normal, continual, and necessary for every pilot.
Beginning with the 2026 MICEP Accreditation we want to underscore our support of the WINGS program by requiring that to begin an accreditation request, an applicant must have completed at least One Phase of the WINGS program within twelve months preceding the date of application submittal. This requirement does not apply to Master Aviation Educator or Master Ground Instructor Accreditations.
The Master Instructor Continuing Education Program™ offers a national accreditation for aviation educators based on advanced professional standards and rigorous peer review. In the words of former FAA Administrator Marion Blakey, this Program “singles out the best that the right seat has to offer.” Even though the number of current Masters at any given time represents less than half of one per cent of all certificated flight instructors, this small group is remarkably overrepresented in terms of work product, FAASTeam participation, and ultimately, our impact on safety.
